Cleanplates Theme; By Suicidalkatt
Tidy Plates   Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Tidy Plates ... enhances the Blizzard nameplates, enabling graphical and functional improvements.

By default, the appearance is simple, but you can quickly customize the appearance by downloading one of the many themes. See the Optional Files section for pre-made themes, and for the development sample.

If you're looking for something slick, check out the Knurl theme, or Cleanplates (A clean, minimalist theme from Suicidalkatt). In addition, I highly recommend VirtualPlates, if you're looking to add range scaling to your nameplates.

Features found in the various themes:
  • Threat/Unit Dependent Nameplate Art
  • Class Icons
  • Health Text
  • Dynamic Opacity
  • Threat Coloring

Contributions:
For those who'd like to thank my wife for tolerating my hobbies, I've set up a Pledgie ID. :-)

Common Questions:
How can I get Feature X? Check the various themes; The Tidy Plates engine allows for some pretty clever manipulation of the nameplates, beyond what the author originally conceived.

What about a GUI for customization? It's something that I've talked about doing, but haven't gotten the time. I HAVE made it practical to design an addon that links to Tidy Plates, so hopefully this feature will finally get introduced. If you're interested in helping in the development, send me a private message, or check out the readme.txt file.

Can you increase the range of the nameplates? Not yet! 3.3, baby!

What's this Threat Glow thing?
The default nameplate from Blizzard will highlight (with a red glow) mobs that are attacking you. However, sometimes it's nice to have a positive indication of when they're attacking someone else. (I'm looking at you, tanks)

The default coloring (Can be modified by simply editing some numbers in a LUA file):
Greenish Yellow: Low threat, Not attacking you.
Yellow: High threat, but not yet attacking.
Red: Aggro, Attacking you.

The threat graphic will also change, depending on the unit: Elite units are designed with a bolder appearance, helping you to differentiate the Elites within a pack of mixed mobs.

suicidalkatt and danltiger

thanks for all the input

can't believe it was as simple as

"go into the Interface Options, and turn off "Color Nameplates based on Class""

lol, maybe i will look into designing my own plate textures since that has now peaked my interest

keep up the great work, i used to use aloft and as grateful as i am to acapela for his great work and continued efforts i am enjoying tidy plates a lot more.

You're very welcome :-)

Part 2/2

For BOTH icons and user-specified coloring, the code would have to:
1. Make the default statusbar invisible
2. Create a new Statusbar subframe under each nameplate
3. Update the Statusbar during each change

Given the growing complexity of Tidy Plates, I'm inclined to alter the theme system to allow designers to (optionally) add their own frames. In that scenario, you'd be able to hide the default statusbar at your discretion, and add your own statusbar.

In fact, I'm currently running a test-version of this idea. The currently available themes are not compatible, however.. which makes it less useful. I feel that the best way to handle this issue would be to write a compatibility layer which would load the old theme styles.

Part 1/2
The table you're referring to is used to identify the class from the color of the statusbar.

Nameplate addons use the statusbar color to quickly determine the class of the unit, in PvP. If you're not interested in having those icons, you can go into the Interface Options, and turn off "Color Nameplates based on Class" (or something similar). Some of the nameplate themes take the liberty of automatically turning the coloring ON. You can change that command in the code...

Look for, SetCVar("ShowClassColorInNameplate", 1) ...
and change the '1' to '0'. (for off)

If you're looking for class icons in PvP, using the coloring is a necessity.

Stay tuned for Part 2...

What this is, is a table defining pairs of variables and strings.
Further down in the lua is this line:

class = classByColor["C"..(r+g+b+index)]

This points to this table and gives a string value associated with the variable returned. The variable is determined by the class color given from the blizzard default UI.

In other words, you're trying to make C256 equal to every class.

Since C256 isn't going to show up as a blizzard default UI class color the table you made won't return any values.

What you're trying to do is change the blizzard default nameplate statusbar color to match whether each target is hostile.

Tidy Plates does not offer the changing of the default UI's statusbar color.

Maybe sometime in a later version.

You may however create textures and use a multi-plate style theme to show a specific layout for hostile targets.

It has an ace 3 options interface and profiling, no 'slash' commands.

There is a saved variable in the package called "Namplates.lua" in the account saved variables.

If you're looking for the easy way of doing this, you'll have to change the line pointing to the bar texture. Since I don't use any "fancy" textures for my HP bar you can easily sub a texture in from shared media.

If you are using the shared media package addon, you can replace line 105 in the theme.lua of CleanPlates from:

texture = path.."\\artwork\\CP_BarTexture",

to

texture = "Interface\\Addons\\SharedMedia\\statusbar\\Glaze",

Yep, but it's gonna cost ya... especially since you're talking up CleanPlates.. sheeash!

;-)

In all seriousness, you'll may just have to replace an image, or change a line of text. I'll explain; The images used to texture the statusbars can be found in the theme folder (they might be under a sub-folder). You can delete/rename/alter the images, OR you could open up the LUA file, and change the filename to point to one of your choosing. Some of the theme designs get a little bit clever, and use the overlay/border artwork to add some classy glassy effects, which would involve a little bit more work to modify.

I've been trying to create totem icons just like class icons would show, but I'm having trouble getting them to display using "unit.name" as the reference to the totem.

Any thoughts?
Edit: Nvm I failed at making the correct directory...

:P
